Zwei Statistiker fliegen im Flugzeug von Los Angeles nach New York.
Nach einer Stunde verkündet der Pilot, dass ein Triebwerk ausgefallen ist. Das sei aber kein Problem, da die anderen 3 Triebwerke noch funktionieren, der Flug würde bloß 7 anstatt 5 Sunden dauern.
Etwas später fällt ein zweites Triebwerk aus und der Pilot sagt, dass es jetzt 10 Stunden dauert. Es gäbe aber kein ernstes Problem.
Kurz darauf ruft der Pilot, dass noch ein Triebwerk ausgefallen ist und dass kein Grund zur Sorge besteht, weil das Flugzeug auch mit nur einem einzigen Triebwerk fliegen kann. Es dauert dafür allerdings ganze 18 Stunden bis nach New York.
Da sagt der eine Statistiker zum anderen: "Mann! Ich hoffe, dass nicht auch noch das letzte versagt, sonst kommen wir hier nie wieder raus."
